There are a few key differences between coaching and therapy.
Therapy is typically longer-term and focuses on diving deep into your past. Before scheduling a therapy visit, you’ll complete a mental health assessment to help us understand any challenges you’re facing and what kind of support you need. During the scheduling process, you’ll also get to choose the best therapist that meets your needs. For example, you might choose a therapist who has experience in grief or building healthy relationships. You’ll be able to read therapist bios and specialties before choosing which one works best for you.
Mental health coaching is another way to improve your mental health. Coaching focuses more on the present moment and how your current behaviors can shape your future. Coaches have a different type of training and can’t prescribe medication. After completing a mental health assessment, you’ll be assigned a coach. You’ll be able to meet with your coach by scheduling video sessions, and you can also send them a message anytime. Click here to learn more about the different types of coaching.
Why would I get a recommendation for coaching instead of therapy?
We recommend either coaching or therapy based on what we learn about you through our mental health assessment. We’ll set you up with a personalized plan, with a goal of making sure you get the right type of support for your needs.
How long are the coaching and therapy visits?
Therapy visits are scheduled for 45 to 60 minutes. Mental health coaching sessions typically last for 30 minutes. Your first introductory session with your coach is 45 minutes.
What can I expect during therapy visits and mental health coaching sessions?
Your therapist or mental health coach will work with you to set goals and learn skills to improve your mental health.
In therapy, you’ll discuss your history and any challenges you’re going through. Together, you will work on finding solutions and celebrating your accomplishments. For more information on how to get ready for your first visit, click here.
